This article is for your clients and the general public to help them recognize why their body can feel younger, steadier, and more capable after a Barefoot Massage session with a CBM-trained therapist
“Your therapist isn’t going through a checklist of strokes. They’re paying attention to how your body responds in real time. This work is built on mindfulness, not memorization.”
This quote is so good. And it does set this method apart from many of the others. My first barefoot massage class was taught as a routine. Since then I’ve taken several barefoot massage courses that ended up being routine-based. It’s difficult for those of us who work differently and make adjustments as bodies change under our feet.
Yeah me too ;) I know there's some benefits to the consistency of a routine, but the harder skill is actually working in the moment with what you have underfoot, so the critical thinking, problem solving and therapeutic reasoning that we try to instill into our students is really what helps them/us work intuitively and at a higher skill level sooner. That skillset can develop through routine-based techniques too, but from what I've seen, the difference in how we approach this is like that old saying "teach a man to fish" or however it goes ;) We are giving longevity to the practitioners by helping them to use their brain just as much as their feet, not just go into autopilot and dance thru the work.
Oh I'm so glad this spoke to you and I hope you can get some kind of bodywork more regularly - it really makes a world of difference inside and out. (And we kinda feel that it's the answer to world peace, lol!) More and more research and realizations are coming into play highlighting the benefits of awakening interoception and body awareness, and a developing deeper felt sense of how fascial mobilization improves your overall health. Let us know if you get "underfoot" with one of our students!
